Living from the Well

I recently returned from a 9-day Yoga Training Module on Meditation at Kripalu Center in the Berkshires towards my 500hr certificate. I ended my week there by walking the campus labyrinth. Traditionally there are three parts to consider when walking a labyrinth: A) The path going inward relates to shedding or letting go) B) The center symbolizes arriving in the inner Presence of the Divine. C) The path returning symbolizes Union with Presence and  bringing it back into the world. Shoes removed, I moved carefully on the narrow wooded path, feeling sensations, observing the weather climate of the mind, and allowing my thoughts to pass and fade like clouds.

Upon arriving at the center I encountered a headstone adorned with objects such as stones, mini amulets, and coins lovingly placed by other pilgrims. I paused to ponder their journeys and to reflect on all the new insights gained from the week. Vibrating like ripples within the center,  Swami Kripalu's foundational words came to me, "Be Compassionate observation without self-judgement". I felt the rooted into the earth, heart open like the petals of a waterlily and in this moment I was the Witness, observing all there is, as it is, from a place of bliss. After drinking this in, exiting the path and heading back to the main house I was reminded of how important the daily meditation is as a practice of returning to the Source to fill the well. Consider the word WELcome. As a greeting we take for granted, it actually means "may wellness, health and goodness come to you". Similarity this echo Namaste, "May the Light within me, acknowledge  the Light within you." Imagine a world where we all can breathe and live from that inner well spring. Where society learns to cultivate that Source of Compassion, and observe without judgement, How might we bring the presence of the Well into our words, self-regulation, actions, and values? For when we achieve this we live in integrity and become mirrors of Light to the world. Live Deeply.
